I think last year there was about 38 or 40 pumpkins over 1000lbs world wide. Thats not very many considering of how many growers are trying now. How many do you think will go over 1000lbs this year? Also what grower do you think will do it more than once this year?

I'd guess 65 over 1000 this year, Whittier, Bobier, Emmons, and Daletas will do it, but I am not sure about a couple others.

the Pacific North West has had great weather... I bet we see quite a few over 1000 from up that way.

If we quickly install a weather handicap of about three hundred pounds for the Northeast more would score.
700lbs is starting to look pretty good to me in 2003. :)
There may be one in Pennsylvania if the grower survived the flood last week.
Flood management will have new meaning after this season ends.

From what I hear, there will be at least a half dozen coming out of Canada this year. Probably way more!

I think we will all be surprised how big the pumpkins are this year. The north west has had some real good weather this year. And any one in the north east that has good drainage should be fine.

No matter what the weather, there will always be those that find a way to make it happen. My guess is that the number to break 1000 this year will exceed the number from last year. Not sure how much more, but my guess is that it will be more. Scott

I agree that good drainage goes a long way during this wet summer. However, there is one important element that’s been in short supply in the northeast, Sunlight. Hard to imagine a new record coming from this part of the country this year.
