I've never seen anyone on the webcam before and now I'm watching vines get pruned before my very eyes. Ah, technology these days.

What is John doing? Was the plant in trouble or is this pruning to maximiize growth ??? Just wondering.

I hate borers.

They got me 5 inches from the pumpkin's stem on the stump side.

Basically, I grew a lot of salad that wasn't feeding the pumpkin. So I opted to pull the plant that wasn't producing.

I hope to just ripen this guy so I can give something to the local Fire Department this year. Hopefully, there is enough plant left to ripen him up.

The pumpkin is only 113 inches around and 72 inches in both side to side and end to end. So at 257 OTT he is only 353 lbs.

What does the fire dept. do with it? (Curiousity killed the cat ya know) LOL I have one roughly that size and I swell all up when I say....he is 350 pounds!!...and hubby says "how the heck are "YOU" gonna move that!" That is pretty big around here.

Don't get me wrong... 350 is still an impressive looking pumpkin, but it isn't big enough for competition. My goal was to beat my personal best of 695 this year, so I will be well short of it.

I donate my pumpkin to the local fire department for display at their Holloween party. Local High School kids in the art club carve it. See my diary entries for what they did last year and in 2000.
