Well, friends,

You can't imagine what is happening now in Spain. I could call it Giant Fruits Fever. Everybody is overcome with this sport of ours. After I got the Spanish watermelon record, a number of newspaper and radio interviews were attended. Then, my pumpkins appeared in many newspapers first page and some give to them a whole inside page. Then, somebody researched and found out that my watermelon could be considered like European Record as well; so, even more expectancy.
Due to political reasons, the contest we were organizing for the middle or end of September has been moved forward to the next weekend in order to come together with our most important fair. Something like Puyallup fair in Washington State. Big prices appeared from nowhere, scenery is being built, politics will open it, a public notary and an adjuster will take care of the correct weigh in, all the media will be there and a great expectation with the possibility of breaking the European Record (423 Kg with the 932.5 Boonen (Belgium)) exists.

As the advances now in my biggest two pumpkins are minimum and deep ribs and Dill rings appeared in their surface, I decided to bring both of them to the contest (If I wouldn't, there were almost no contest). Maybe the 600.5 x 950.4 would have grown a little more, but not much as I believe. I know many people would like to see it growing until October and, as you can imagine, the one who wanted that more than any other else in the World is the writer, but that is the way. Now I only want the transport of these monsters to go easy (they are travelling in a big truck with lifting arm) and wish they to weigh faaaaaaaaar over the charts, like Owen's 641.3 did (although I'd take the chart's, for sure).
I'll post today the last of the pictures of them inside my patch (tears falling from my eyes in this moment) with the final weight estimation. And soon you will know the results of the event.

Carlos

Pdta: I am a little afraid about all of this. I am only a farmer.

Don,
You made a great job; you deserve the new European record.
What does it means I’m only a farmer? Farmer is the most important job in the earth.

Carlos,
I can't wait to hear the results of the contest!
And yes, make sure that there is someone who takes a lot of good pictures to post on BP. (Video coverage would also be cool!)
Let's hope your monsters won't weigh light as many fruits grown in a hot climate.
Good luck and best wishes,
Martin

Congratulations Carlos! Your pumpkins are encouraging for all European growers and are the best promotion of the sport – thanks to BP we can all enjoy them.
My desire for the next years is to visit European weight-off to see all the monsters and the growers. This stimulates me to grow a big one myself… somewhere in the future anyway.
