i dont know if ill be keeping that land,,,so i thought it would make great starter juice for next years transplants. i thought id burn the vines cause of mildew. and slow compost the rest (red wigglers-vance saffels-englewood tennessee). are there alot of nutients in rind? seems like there should be. i bet you could make alot of products from rind,,ferts,,,skin sealer,,,pie,,,,yummmmmmmmmm,,,,,,,

Trying to be nice here. But I believe alot of your problems are coming from the weeds in your patch. You need to get better air plow under your plants. Then there will also be less places to hide for the bugs. Shannon

tractor broke. they went in as is. but as far as bugs go my patch is near the womb of bugtussle. this part of tennessee is moist and hot till fall then moist and cold till spring.but not cold enough. im impressed that not tilling and weeding, getting them in late, watering every two or three days, still produced large pumpkins. with very small vine lengths. i do have lots of praying mantis,,.and a gazillion other bugs.
