Hello, I need some information. What is the most gallons of miracle grow I should put on a plant at 1 time. Also, if I was going to use granular 10-10-10, how much should I put on a plant? My plants are around 400 sq. ft. Thanks , Doug

well, i would have no problem slamming down a 55-gallon barrel of regular-strength (one tbsp./gallon, i think) Miracle-Gro and water like every 3rd day from here on out, unless it rains. and, unless you just now are starting to water with fertilizer....may be too much for the first time in a while. okay maybe half that amount, and throw-on another 1/4 each next time....the ground should be constantly basically moist, and should always have some degree of fertilizer included. so 27 gallons, wait 3 days, add 14 more gallons, then by the weekend's watering--55 gallons. there i just figured out what i have to do also! PS-there may be other responses with better ideas. that would be a good thing if you have only one fruit and it's your new PB; in other words, take it easy if that's the case! 'pal

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=45592 (under general discussion 8-12-03 "how to push your pumpkins") this is something i've yet to try (where did this weekend go??) on like 3 of my plants that still have small fruit on them, like 100 pounds or less....i would rather see them grow 40+ pounds a day and risk destruction than have them only get to like 200 or so a their present rate! i mean, if a seed has neared or produced world-record fruit before, then why not in my patch??? good luck! Whatever fertilization choices one makes the growth spurt is to be avoided. Look at your practices. Figure an increase if you so desire but drop it in on more days rather than all at once. Make it a mix of foliur and ground if you know how to achieve the same results that way.
My best has been 18lbs a day over fourteen days averaged. I took my own advise. Past two days it appears I have raised my daily growth a few pounds. A week will prove or disprove my choices as good or maybe to much...at which point I will punt again moving just a little in one direction or the other. I did it all with foliar wetting, drying and wetting again technique....yes three key times in the day. 8AM, 4PM and 6:30PM I did not change the application at 4PM. Just added a wet dry wet cycle to all three times. I did not change the elements in my program. They were doing well so I did not want to change them.
4PM is the approximate time the plant reverses at this time of year, in the Northeast, wherein foliar feeding becomes the most effective.
Whatever dastardly plans I may have are intended to fit in with the phrase......."study as she goes". It appears my one real good growing pumpkin likes this attention.
By Kentucky Windage and timing I think I increased the foliar feeding about 20%. Watching leaf color and response now very closely.
