I need everyones input on this, trying to get as much data as possible. If you could tell me the prize structure at your weighoff that would be great. GPC, independent, whatever, lay it on me!
thanks Scott

Knopp, are Belgian growers also alowed to participate in that contest. The prices here in Belgium are really low, think last year the price was a weekend trip.

Jurgen, Only German growers are allowed to participate in this contest in Germany. Also, the price structure for this year hasn't been published so far. You might want to consider participating at the European contest in Seegräben (Suisse). "German Pumpkin"'s true name is Owen Olsen and he lives in Knopp! Best wishes, Martin

Jurgen, The European championship in Seegräben is organized by the same company as the German championship in Ludwigsburg. Last year the price for first place in Seegräben was a "Smart"(car). Please take a look at these two links:

Jurgen, I wanted to post the direct links to the websites that I wanted to show you but I suppose I did something wrong. If you are on the site of the link above then click on "Deutsche Meisterschaft im Kürbiswiegen" and on "Europameisterschaften im Kürbiswiegen" and always select "Besuchen Sie die Seite vom letzten Jahr" in order to get information about last year's events. Best wishes and let me know if you came through. Martin

a smart that is incredible!!! If last years belgian winner would have come to Zwitserland he would have won it with 365 kg. But it would be very expensive to travel with your pumpkin to Switzerland and than end maybe at the third place. Do you have any idea if you can sell your pumpkins in switzerland at the weighoff. Normally in Belgium the big supermarkets buy a lot of pumkins.

Jurgen, Forgot to mention that the company will keep the winning pumpkin on display after the weighoff, both at the European and at the German weighoff. And you will never get back your pumpkin or any seeds. This happened to me at the German weighoff last year as my pumpkin won. I was only allowed to pick it up on the day of the European contest in order to drive to Seegräben with it but after the European contest I had to return the pumpkin. Martin PS: There were also prices for second and third place at the European weighoff last year. The second place winner won a travel to the meditarian see and the third place winner won 300 CHF.

The company will dry and sell the seeds. They sold the seeds of my 658lbs German record pumpkin for EUR 5,10 each last winter! Very expensive, isn't it?

scott- I think for a larger well established weigh off 1st - $2K-$10K 2nd - $500- $1K 3rd- half of 2nd 4th half of 3rd For smaller weigh-offs... they vary more. 1st- $50 to $1K
my local county fair in mid Aug. gave $3 for heaviest pumpkin, but the entry was free.
entry fees vary also.
it seems to me that prize money has decline a little the last couple of years at the bigger weigh offs. good luck
