Don Quijot

Caceres, mid west of Spain

Hi folks,

I've got some news, you soon will be able to watch in my diary:
Last night was celebrated the Regional Melon and watermelon Contest in Villanueva. Many people from different villages came, TV and newspapers covered it. I was the lucky winner of the two first watermelon prices and the special prize for breaking the old Spanish record with my watermelon "sleeping pig", which got 174.6 lbs. But the most regarded and commented thing of the weigh off was the exhibition of "Cinderella", my 658 x 950.4 which was officially weighed at 522.5 lbs (1.5% light). Nobody there had seen before anything so big and nice. This is not America.

Congratulations Carlos, a truely world class watermellon, and a fine pumpkin. You are giving more meaning to the term "world class" as now we are seeing tremendous dedication and amazing results in not only Nort America, but all over the world.

There was little doubt in my mind that you would be a serious contender in the world of the giant pumpkin. Your trip to America, visiting the patches of the best we have, convinced me that you were a serious grower. You have kept your focus on your goal of the largest pumpkin in Spain....and you have succeeded....next Europe....next the World!! May God continue to bless you in your quest.

Thank you very much friends for your compliments. I thought that this summer I would have a quiet holydays, but I believe I will need other holydays, after these holydays end.

Great news, Carlos! It is heartening to see someone who put in a worthy effort get a worthy result. This happens all too seldom. Will you be posting information about that watermelon?
