I was ssooo hoping this was a posting he had broken last years record already, he's in a better place, and now I'm sure he'll soar past last years record.

I visited Charlie at his patch last April. What a thrill it was to meet the World Champion! I found him to be a quiet gentleman with a big heart. He shared not only his many trophys, but out of the goodness of his heart he gave us a couple of his best seeds from 2002. I am growing his 1058 this year.....and hope it will match the great impression that he has made in the pumpkin world. I will miss Charlie....

Three cheers for Jim Kuhn and the others who have helped in Charlie's patch this summer. They loved him very much.

Thank You Mr. Charlie Houghton for the help and consideration you gave me. With your 1337 seed I only tried to make seed pumpkins so I would never run out. I know you can read this and please once you take care of your family give us a little push in the right direction. Thank you Mr. Champion!

a genuine and warm source of good humor at the NF seminar in 2003. i did not have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Houghton there, definitely my own fault, and i deeply regret it! i was going to grow the 1337.6 next year anyway; in light of this terrible news, it will be done with a great deal more determination to do this seed, and Charlie, great justice...my condolences and deepest sympathies to any and all of his relatives, friends and fellow growers.

I first met Charlie at the 2001 NHGPGA picnic. That was one of my fondest memories of him. I remember him trying to convince all of the attendees that he didn't have any pumpkins larger than a golf ball. He was also joking about spraying Round-Up on his trousers before walking through the other patches on the tour.

It was that sense of humor and his infectious laugh that will forever stick out in my mind.

Godspeed Charlie, you will be missed sorely. The world was a better place with you in it.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Houghton Family.
