Using an automatic trail watcher camera I have determined that the flasher type vinyl tape at least stops them some twenty to thirty feet away.
Before installing the deer were walking and nipping tomato plants at the edge of the patch. Since installing the camera pix indicate the change has them aware that something is different. My neighbor is now pitching a fit about deer damage. :)
Chances are very good that this will work for a week or so then I will hang up a couple of worn T-Shirts with body odor intact. This too will work for a few days.
That leaves one more trick or two including Deer Away, bars of motel soap hung at eighteen inches above ground and Liquid Fence. All seem to work for a few days. I believe it is the changes plus movement and odor all three that spooks them. My camera shots seem to agree with my comments.
Hair offers simply body odor and goes away quicly. Eggs and garlic is the base in most sold liquids to chase them away plus hot peppers to burn their tongs.
Yes I pee around the edge of the patch. Bud Lite renders the best there is. :) I have played with preditor urines but find them expensive and no better than man's.
Lead posioning is still better than all of the above if you live where you can administer the program.

DEER DEER DEER
BEST DEER REPELLENT
Dogs only work in rural America. Soap, Pee & other remedies as well. Around here we have the worst Deer pressure in the world. More Deer meet more people here than anywhere. PERIOD. Nothing that is marketted as effective works very long here. They know us too well because we are everywhere they might be. Ditto the Deer. We have the highest Human population density in America. And lot's of Deer & woods too! I have sold commercial applicators various liquid Deer repellents for the past 20 years. We basically OWN the commercial chemical business here & have for over 10 years. In this time I have seen probably 20 different *NEW* preperations come along. We try EVERY new material that comes along. Every new company begs us to try their "NEW STUFF". Most are miserable. None have even come close to the best cocktail we have.
NOW GET THIS STRAIGHT: I'm not going to re-type this again this year. Folks need to learn how to use the search feature.
There is nothing better for Deer than this cocktail. PERIOD!
Per finished gallon of spray:
One half pound of Thiram Fungicide. Two and a half ounces of Vapor Gard anti-transpirant. 6 ounces of Miller's Hot Sauce.
Spray any time the temperature is above 40 degrees F. Stop short of run-off.
This preperation lasts about 6-8 weeks here. More elsewhere. Then you re-apply. Twice is OK most winters on dormant shrubs. But anything that grows is likely to produce new growth after we've sprayed. So new growth has to be sprayed as it appears.
Until you've tried this cocktail, please don't claim something works better unless you have the formula handy to share in specific detail. I have literally hundreds of hours spent on this subject & get tired of beating it to death now-a-days.
