Nick: I have checked it out as best as I can. I had two seed from Lincon, & one I traded for from Paul McIntyre. I started a Lincon seed & a McIntyre seed, gave one plant to Bill VanSchuppen, not sure which one as both seemed equaly the same, they both threw long stemmed fruit, his yellow, mine green, ?????????? To the best of my knowledge, both these plants are 865 Mettler 98. Paul has me assured that the seed came straight fron Lincon . I have bred a 935 Lloyd 97 with three fruit, two of them with Bill's & one of them with mine. I also have two pictures here of the 865 one orange,1 greenesh, which one is true ???, go back 5 generations and you will find a Dill squash, I'm as baffiled as you but that is the story as best I know it. Bill Van. Maybe Bill Bobier could give some light on this. or test growing both these crosses next year may give some light, only sorry I couldn't get four on this plant, two of each, I tried but failed & it's to late now. I grew an 865 Mettler in 2000. I got a orange fruit. I can email or post a picture if you want. I haven't heard of it ever throwing green - but stranger things have happened.

I'm growing a 865 Mettler now. It is growing mostly unimpressive, shoulderless, white pumpkins.

I have grown 2 of them and both had similar characteristics. Plants were aggressive, fast growers on stout vines and leaf stalks. Fruit were very blocky on the short side with good shoulders. All fruit blossom end split. Color was white with pink in the ribs on one plant, and white with a greenish hue inbetween the ribs on the other as the fruit aged. The 661 I grew from it had the green hint to it.
