Hey, is anyone growing any Hester seeds this year. Since the patch is doing exactly what a new patch should do, I must live off of the glory of my seeds, for the pumpkins this year suck. How are the seeds doing for everyone?
Good Luck, The Pumpkinguru

Brett: I'm growing your 895.5 for the BP sq. contest. At 39 days it is 129" in cir. It started out as the most beautiful green thing hat i eversaw, the stem was about 10" long, and the fruit wa a perfect oval. Then it started to grow up into a very large wheel so i had to support it with sand so it woudnt fall back and pull it self off the vine. Now its starting to sag and grow over the sand pile i made,to make matters worse it also developed a stem stlit. I've filled the stem with capatan and its still growing about 2-3" a day. It does'nt look real nice but if I can keep it moving It should weight out very good. Most sq. weigh heavy, do yours? I hve 4 other AG and they all got stem splits at about 100". They all were 100" at 27 to 31 days, probably grew faster than the fruit?? Steve

Brett, I'm growing two of your seeds thanks a bunch! The 582 started as a vigourous plant but the pumpkin seems to have slooooowed down at about 300 lbs. I haven't measured in 5 days but it doesn't look any bigger. The other is the 856. I planted this in hopes of a greenie but alas its growing a great orange color. It is the biggest pumpkin in the patch (which isn't saying much, I'm 300 pounds behind last year)at about 400 lbs.

Hi Brett, nice to hear from you. I planted the 582, but unfortunately it grew a flat vine and secondaries were flat too, so, as I had two plants in that hill, I determined to cull it out. However it was the greenest and healthiest of my patch at that time. Would like to try it again.

Hi Brett,
I also chose the 895.5 Hester squash. Beautiful looking plant, first 3 pollinations aborted (just didn't go for that 744 Welty pollen!) I have several that recently open pollinated (kinda late!), but the plant is AWESOME!

Hi Brett, I tried to germinate. It was weird. didm't root on the root tip but it formed roots off the seed cots. 2 roots, of clustered roots. I would like to try it again next year.

Hi Brett, I to am in a new patch this season. I started your 582 but it went into a wild flat vine mutant frenzy after about 3 weeks I struggled with it for about 6 weeks and after numerous aborts I pulled the plant. I have one of your 895.5 seeds in and growing it is now at 118 circumferance and packing on the pounds, it is a beautiful plant and fruit. See you at Canby.

So the 582 is giving germination problems. Poop. There are quite a few that have made it and a rolling well. There seems to be many different shapes to it though, but all are light to dark orange. The 856 is throwing orange (go figure)and the 895 is doing the tough to set thing. Nice to hear about the 989.5, that is new news, and two other new seeds from 2002 are the 655 which I didn't send to everyone, and the 675 SQ hold on to those. Keep me updated all. Take Care The Pumpkinguru

I have pollinated everything possible on my 895 and still have nothing to show for it. Well, I do have a very big, healthy plant to show for it! It is a good conversation piece.
It has been a record breaking hot summer in Utah, so both my squash plants have had the same problem and I have pollinated no less than 50 between the two plants. I am getting kind of tired of it...
This week has been a little cooler (mid 90's) and I have pollinated 5 over the past 3 days (all covered and using ice) and should at least get something big by Halloween. Thanks.
