Many growers helped me out with my stem split problems and the re-occuring theme was -- scrape out the paste and apply the fugicide in dry powder form. What i found easy to do (told to be by glenn needham) is to blow dry fugicide in there with a straw or connection of straws (really depends how big the split is and amount of oozing, lots of oozing is not good from my observations, just FYI). Try to get a fan on it to keep the area dry at all times. Support the vine somehow so none of its weight is on the stem (this is of utmost importance!).

Um.....I really don't like the straw thing. You really don't want to get fungicide in your mouth or especially lungs. Businesses that supply professional pest control companies (like us) sell cheap squeeze bulbs that are very effective at dispensing with dusts safely. We sell the Centro Duster in 8 & 14 oz sizes. I find the 8 oz is fine. They run between $11.50 & $14.00 depending on where you buy them.
