            | Bantam | Tipp City, Ohio | Given a handout on this disease, from the Ohio State Pumpkin field Day, that started in 1991 in the southern states. This is a summery of the handout.
Crops affected: Summer and Winter Squash, Pumpkins, Cantalopes and Watermelon. But, not Cucumbers
Caused by a Bacterium(Serratia Marcescens) Carried by the Squash Bug Adults that have overwintered. Bacterium can be transmitted within one day of acquisition and the insects can transmit for at least three weeks.

Symptoms: foilage usually turns yellow, then plant collapses prior to fruit maturity. When base of stem is cut, discolored honey-brown ring of phloem tissue is seen. Symtoms do not show until at least 28 days after the squash bug has had lunch.

Control: basically removing this bug by insecticide at planting (Admire or Platinum) or repeated foliar sprays with pyrethoid.
