            | huffspumpkins | canal winchester ohio | After reading Glen's diary about not keeping anything under 22" at 10 days it got me to thinking. Hopefully some of the Heavy Hitters that don't always post could chime in on this one as they have seen a LOT more pumpkins grow than most of us.What "slow starters" that you know about or have grown kicked in later to be a real monster pumpkin?
 Thanks...........Paul

            | Ned | Honesdale, Pennsylvania | Hey Paul: I am certainly not a heavy hitter but culling at 10 days because of slow growth seems premature to me. My best pumpkin in 2001 was only 22 inches at day 14 and ended up at 797 come weigh off time in Altoona. Good luck this year. Ned | 8/11/2003 8:42:01 AM |

            | thebez | Cooks Creek, Manitoba, Canada | I'm with Ned on this. Although I have not grown a monster I did check back over my presonal records for the last 4 years and found that my biggest pumpkins started fairly slowly, barely making 20" at day 10, and then just kept picking up the pace hitting there top growths from approx. day 25 to day 40. My fastest starts with sizes near 30" on day 10 all seemed to run out of steam by day 35. | 8/11/2003 9:30:27 AM |

            | PumpkinBrat | Paradise Mountain, New York | My 1074 Calai this year started out very slow. When it got the size of a soft ball, it stopped growing for ten days straight. Now at 31 days old, it's 82+56+56=194 OTT. Some days it has put on 30lbs now. So, I'm glad I decided to keep it and see what would happen. It's turning into a great pumpkin. | 8/12/2003 2:13:38 AM |
