            | jeff517 | Ga. | I pollinated a fruit yesterday morning.I put a cup over fruit to keep rain off..My question is,,today expecting showers again..I removed cup this morning,,if rain starts back up(none since yesterday),should I cover fruit and blossom up aain? Or would pollination already have taken??Thanks for any advice~!J

            | MR. T. (team T) | Nova Scotia | i beleive after 6 hours pollunation is done. i would not cover, for if it gets hot you'll have pumpkin pie | 8/8/2003 10:26:09 AM |
            | floh | Cologne / Germany | Taken or not, you risk a pulpy flower if exposed to rain that early. Remove the cup but look for something else - umbrella, small plastic shade. I had some rotten blossom end tips in the rain, all aborted. | 8/8/2003 10:47:03 AM |
            | southern | Appalachian Mtns. | I use the lil' white styrofoam cups over mine for 1 day after pollination. White styrofoam seems to keep it cool enough even in sun, and dry. | 8/8/2003 6:25:02 PM |
            | jeff517 | Ga. | Well,,no rain today.. :) Now the bad news,,every time a pkin is pollinated here, and I mean EVERY single one,,I have to treat blossom end with sulfur or captan because it gets a fungus turning it to mush..I even experienced this early season when it wasnt hot..I just pollinated yesterday and the *&$%^ thing was already mushy on blossom end..I treated it right away..So now I must worry more..I really need this fruit,,only chance at a main vine fruit. What is causing this?? I cant move Glenn..Its not an option..Getting depressed again in Ga..... | 8/8/2003 8:35:45 PM |
