            | Tremor | [email protected] | I posed this question last year some time & got no response. Someone asked me in an email today what I thought of using products like Vapor-Gard or Wilt-Pruf directly on the pumpkin to help retain moisture.
I experimented last year on some Prizewinners & saw no harm come from it. Though I didn't include enough checks to honestly say I saw a marked improvement.

Can someone who has tried this comment?

            | Engel's Great Pumpkins and Carvings | Menomonie, WI ([email protected]) | GPC does not allow any coating of the pumpklins before weigh off. I used wilt pruf and a uv protector last year and was warned. The Pumpkin even after it was carved lasted until the beginning of december. So dont coat them with something you cant remove before the weigh off. Shannon | 8/7/2003 1:20:38 AM |

            | docgipe | Montoursville, PA | Dern....that's a rule maybe we should work to change with some guys traveling half a day to get to weigh off. The advertisement would be worth the change. Wrapping in shrink wrap for the haul gets no attention. The public loves to see the big orange.
Surely a naked trip wipes off ounces maybe pounds. Funny rule. Wonder what the reasoning is?

            | Tremor | [email protected] | With a friend who has a patent pending on a new material & an arsenal of options in the chem shed, it wouldn't be very difficult to select a compound that would avoid detection. Do the officals at weigh-ins have a standardized test procedure by which to consistantly establish whether anti-desiccants have been used? If so what is it? Just looking isn't going to cut the mustard if the grower get's "creative".
Dumb rule if there is no standard. IMHO.

            | Engel's Great Pumpkins and Carvings | Menomonie, WI ([email protected]) | They are slippery as an eel, which makes for difficult handling when it comes time to weigh. | 8/7/2003 9:59:11 PM |
