This letter was received from Bill's wife, Marguerite:
Dear Friends,
In Feb. 2003, my husband Bill Greer, was diagnosed with A.L.S. Disease, more commonly known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease. Sadly, on June 1, 2003, Bill lost his battle with this disease.
A.L.S. is a fatal neuromuscular disease that attacks the motor neurons, making even the simplest movements of walking, speaking, and swallowing nearly impossible. Within a short time of diagnosis, many patients are confined to a wheelchair and die within 3-5 years. There is no known cure at this time.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, the A.L.S. Society is holding it's annual "Walk to Defeat A.L.S." fundraising event. Funds raised will be used for research and support for those struggling with the disease.
My family and I will be walking with "Bill's pumpkin pals" at the Riverside Park in Bellevue, Ont. At this time, we are looking for sponsors to help raise as much money as possible. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Please make checks payable to A.L.S. Society, Belleview Chapter, and forward them to the address below. Tax receipts will be mailed upon request. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Marguerite Greer
