            | Greg1 | Kansas City, MO | My patch was attacked last night by something. A hundred or more leaves eaten back to the stem, mostly toward the ends of my mains and secondaries. And almost every pumpkin, including two headed for greatness, have one or several "bites" out of them. I have lots of critters in the woods behind my house. Open to thoughts or help. Thanks. | 8/4/2003 11:12:15 PM |

            | Engel's Great Pumpkins and Carvings | Menomonie, WI ([email protected]) | Got foot prints or hoove prints? Otherwise it could be Joe Ailts's Elephant that just migrated south. I would place my bets on a deer or woodchuck. | 8/4/2003 11:56:24 PM |

            | Greg1 | Kansas City, MO | My plan:
 1. Use lots of deer repellant.
 2. Increase nitrogen for a couple weeks.
 3. Water hard a day or two.

 Thoughts?

            | Green Rye | Brillion Wisconsin | This will be a good test of your systemic insecticide(if you use one) I would take a walk out in the woods and see if there are any bodies laying around.
As far the plan to recover, I would'nt water too much for a day or two. I would try to keep the soil consistantly moist. A little extra N should encourage green growth. Deer control try this, my sister has had terrible trouble with deer in her garden. She heard that human hair is one of the best deer repellants around. She went down the barber shop and got all she wanted. She put the hair in old panty hose and hung these up around her garden and the deer have not touched it since. Good luck Dean o
