            | Desert Storm | New Brunswick | Well, I am in hot water again. One of my pumpkins was growing downhill and too much stress was on the stem..soooo... I decided to try and do something. I placed short flat pieces of board below the pumpkin and piled soil on top of the board pieces and up and around the pumpkin. While trying to get soil under the pumpkin I managed to knock off the blossem tip. Yegads what next! I dusted it with sulpher. Have I killed it?? | MR. T. (team T) | Nova Scotia | not at all as long as it was pollinated a few day's ago or more your fine. but be careful a beginner mistake (i know) is to try to many different thing yes you learn from it but damage your pumpkin in the process. hope you do well for your the closest person on here to my old home town in N.S. | 8/1/2003 3:37:48 PM |

            | Cowpie | Ontario | Seems like your having a heck of a time D.S., but it's part of being on the learning curve. You don't have to be a fool to make mistakes, but it's a fool who makes the same mistakes twice. Your going to be a far better grower next year than you are this year so chin up and stay positive. ;0) | 8/1/2003 5:54:07 PM |

            | Desert Storm | New Brunswick | Yup Cowpie you're right...I am in hot water constantly it seems. LOL. This is my fourth season for growing A.G.'s. I think I was better off not knowing as much. I never did a thing to my plants the past three seasons...I had no bad vine splits, no pumpkins growing down hill...pretty well problem free. True, the weights for those years were only 139 pounds, 192 pounds and 140 pounds...but I had no problems. This year the more I try to make things right..and in the case of the vine split...I did nothing at all..I swear I did not touch it..honest, the worse off I seem to be.! I am some glad the broken blossem pumpkin is going to be ok. Thanks for the reassurance Mr. T. It is a beautiful shaped pumpkin. Well wonder what trouble I will get myself into tomorrow? My hubby is getting a great laugh out of all this. I did find another use for smaller culled pumpkins....throw 'em at him and then run. ROTFLMAOI was just down to Halifax a couple of weeks ago, Mr. T. Do you ever get back for a visit? We were to the Cabot trail a few years ago. It is beautiful.

            | urban jungle | Ljubljana, Slovenia | I did the same thing last year (actualy my girlfriend), I put the piece back in the pumpkin and it has completly healed! | 8/4/2003 3:56:50 AM |

            | Desert Storm | New Brunswick | The piece I broke off had protruded..I just broke it off flush with the pumpkin. It looks ok. There was no way of replacing the piece except gluegun it on...and I doubt the pumpkin would stand for that! *grin* I don't know how well it is growing. I made a pact with myself not to measure for two full days! The suppense is killing me. (The two days are up tonight.) | 8/4/2003 8:24:02 AM |
