            | luvtogrow | Manchester, N.h. | MY son who is eight years old is growing his own pumpkin this year. He does the watering and weeding. Well the weeding is a problem so I decided to give him a hand and pull a few weeds for him. Doing this I discovered that he had vine borers eating away inside the stem of the leaf. After spending an entire afternoon cutting leafs (I tried to cut the borers out but the leaf would break.) and pulling weeds and burying vines I was done. I stood back to see how nice it looked and about fell over. His patch looks like it had a very bad haircut. There is a question with this....About 50% of the plant had to go. Can anyone tell me if his plant will survive the hack job it just went through?

            | Smitty | Edmonton, Canada | It should. Give it some time, and if you got all of the borers, it will be behind, but it should live. | 7/31/2003 10:32:38 AM |
            | overtherainbow | Oz | unless you grow in a screened in cover,,with sterile soil,,you got grubs..... i began with bagged soil and peat,,etc,,
kept things screened untill time for field(old overgrown hay field),,,i put out the plants,,,,
came back later,,,,grub sign,,nasty stem,,,,i covered huge amounts of vine near the root and the root in dirt.
they say molassas works to fight bugs,NO KIDDING!
VOO DOO GRUB DOLLS DO NOT WORK!
