This a language concerned question. Does anyone know the origin of this word for a pumpkin growing place. Or why is applied only to the pumpkin garden and not to other veg gardens?

I did a whole paper for english class this spring on pumpkin history and folklore...I can tell you the origin of the word pumpkin, but I came across nothing on the origin of "patch" in my researching. I think I have heard stories about where "patch" came from, but I don't remember them.

Hey Don, It is applied to other gardens cabbage patch for example. My dictionary has it down as a small plot of land.
