what is so bad about this, and how does it affect the pumpkin's growth and ability to produce seeds?

My 1016 daletas had seeds in the blossom and is one of my better fruits.

They are told to be great splitters when big.

It´s a good chance for deformations and depressions later on in the season. I had 3 females like this and culled them all. When you cut the female in the middle you can see the areas where the deformation starts, look here: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=10359

I've been told the same thing Brigitte...I guess seeds in the blossom is a mutation whereby parts of an ovary that should be in the pumpkin have extended through and into the blossom...I could see this at some point leading to a blossom end split and uneven pumpkin growth...I pollenated mine too and it's perfectly round and should make the 60 inch mark at day 20...still no signs of any blossom end problems...I'm not pushing it just want to see what it will do.

Brigitte, My 1098Ciliberto is doing this on it's later female blossems. They have all aborted, probably because of the heat. When I met with Tony Ciliberto Tuesday night he saw my picture and revealed that the 1097.8Ciliberto had a flower like this but the pumpkin finished and made it to the weigh-offs.
