I've been reading some past & present diaries trying to get a read on my 845 plant & fruit. It seems my plant is normal as the vines are thick & rigid making them hard to work with. And the fruit is young & growing ( 9 days 18" circ.), my question is do any of you that are growing the 845 or those of you that have grown it in the past experience slow growth in the early stages of the fruit? Looking back in Ben's diary from last year it seemed his done the same thing. If you don't feel comfortable answering here feel free to e-mail me privately. Thanks.............Paul

hey paul, my 845 was a slow starter right from the start..when it started to vine it only grew sec vines on the left side only,it has a huge main (thickness) but snap when it hit the 12 ft mark..when it was reaching for the sky 1 morning and the vines are brittle also..fruit still young let you know in a couple days...it did produce a 7 lober but it aborted..

Paul, i would say my plant was pretty much garbage.....vines growing up, everthing rigid, broken main at 19'......fruit growth has been slow to average as compared with previous fruits in my patch. It is slightly slower than the 723 fruit i grew last year so far, but, slightly faster than the 814 i grew in 2001. Time will tell i guess, these early days dont mean much if you cant pack it on in august. Scott

Paul My 845 plant was slow to start but now I have a set on it that is at 21" in 8 days. The plant took a month to get going but now looks good. Let me know if you would like to see it some time. John Columbus Ohio

Paul i just posted two pictures of my 845,as it seems a bit slowwwwwww compared to others i have growing, also kinda dull looking and ribby for its age and size. Both 723's i,ve grown in the past have been average for day 10 20 and 30 low 20's on day 10 low 60's on day 20 and 100 an some small change on day 30,but neither of them ever looked like this one on day 17.Tell me its not maturing? any thoughts would be welcome.John

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it very much, and John thanks for the invite I have vacation in a week & a half so I'll probably see you then. Now for the depressing part. This was the only fruit on the plant, not by choice mind you but everytime a female was about to bloom the vine would break. This has to be the thickest most ridgest plant I've ever seen & I've lost at least 8 females to snapped vines. Well the fruit that I had going was growing steady & I didn't fertilize a bit but when I woke up this afternoon it had exploded thus now I'm fruitless:( It's not the end of the season though as this plant grows like a madman & I'm going to TRY to get a few vines to the ground so I can pollinate a few females by the end of July to the first of August. That's about it.......Paul
