WEll I posted that I was loosing and lost my 845 Nesbitt. Then I posted about loosing 2nd plant (705 hopkins). I took advise and took plant to my local extension office, and they were 99.9% sure it is downy mildew. So I have lost two plants to it now. I still have my 821 Garrell and 803 Davies that have been growing very healthy. They told me that once the plant gets the downy mildew, it is almost for sure a gonner. They also explanied to me what to look for for the 1st symptoms (and showed me on some leaves that were on the plant I brought in today. Well, I get home and immediately check my other two plants, and you guessed it, I got the 1st symptoms on the new growth (last 1 ft. of main and on some new growth on some secondaries) on both plants that are left. My question is, IS THERE ANY WAY TO SAVE MY LAST TWO PLANTS? Or am I finished for the season?
Thanks for taking the time to reply
Mike

after spending more time here on the internet, I am at a loss. The pictures I see of downy mildew does not look like my problem. I don't mean to doubt my local extension office, but the pictures to me (i'm no expert by FAR, don't look that way. If anyone has any ideas, i'd be so thankful. I'm to the point now where i'm ready to just start preparing my soil for next year, and give up this year.
Thank you, extremely frustrated in KY Mike

Hey Kentucky...Love those master gardeners at the local extension but tissue eyeballed and not microscoped is not as scientific as one would like to be. They're are plenty of recommendations for treating Downy mildew on the internet if thats what you have....ridomil gold alternating weekly with another fungicide was one I saw...google search on downy mildew cucurbit.... there were pages of info and treatments...if you get it early can probably save those plants. Good Luck.. Chuck

it is hard to tell but those little eggs, posted in your diary, look like squash bug eggs to me... which means you have squash bugs in you patch... they poke tiny little holes on the underside of the leaves and suck juices out. they also carry bacteria wilt disease... which could be the reason you are losing plants ! Cucumber Beetles also carry a bacterial wilt disease. baterial wilt http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/cucurbit/leaf/6.1.html downy mildew http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/cucurbit/leaf/14.1.html
