I have a fruit that looks kind of funny to me and I was looking for some opinions on it. It is on my 969 Krug #1 plant and pear shaped or kind of like a birdhouse gourd. It was suggested to me that it may be due to an incomplete pollination. Just looking for a few more opinions. It can be viewed in my growers diary. Thanks in advance, Mike Frantz

Mike: Any other fruit on that plant look like that? Any leaves look like they have watermelon mosiac? I had one last year that shape which I attributed to watermelon mosaic. After the first two females, every one after had the odd shape. And many leaves further out on my plant showed evidence of watermelon mosaic. Your case may be different, though... Frank

I've seen it in your 116 entry, Mike. Don't like that shape. I can't give you an expert opinion, of course, but if it were mine and the plant had more to grow, I'd cull it as soon as possible. Ah! and I will tell you that the soil of your remote patch looks awesome, like black old manure.

I agree with Don. My 478# grew like that back in 2000. The problem is, most of the weight in an AG is in the shoulders, that's why high shouldered fruit are most desirable. A fruit shaped like this will also weigh considerably less than what the OTT chart shows.
