Broke my main vine near the tip about four days ago. Wasn't broken completely through, but at least 70%. I put a Captan liquid cast around it and buried it with dirt. To my amazement, the main has continued to grow.....probably four inches per day with no wilting on the leaves beyond the break. Could the plant truly keep growing and throw more viable females beyond the break?

I will let you know! My 1024 Pukos broke off also and I just buried it too. It's still growin! Don't think any monsters will come off the front portion but I got one set behind it.

i broke one on mine several weeks ago, but all the way through...i was advised to reroute the closest secondary and it has taken over for the primary really well..that sure was a bad feeling when i heard the SNAP!!! good luck!

it will still grow... but i'd train a 2ndary ... it is like a 70% clogged pipe water still goes through but it really retricted.

Last year that happened to me on my 771 Holland I definately think it reduced the growth of the pumpkin that I set on the vine about eight feet past the break. The vine snaped half way threw and I buried it, later in the year I dug it up and it healed up but the vine was all gnarly looking. Last year The main vine on my 995.8 Carter snaped off and I trained a secondary to become a main and grew a 754 LB pumpkin on it. If I had it to do over again I would have cut the vine off of the 771 Holland and trained a secondary as a new main.

i wouldnt grow a pumpkin after the break......no matter what that vine was comprimised.........we all work way to hard to deal with smething that's already compromised from the get go. Train a secondary and go for it!!
