Hypothetically...would you be able to tape together or connect two vines at their ends(each one from a different plant) so that the two plants could share their energy? I'm interested to hear what everyone has to say..

people graft plants together and stuff, but i don't think it would work with pumpkins because they never develop woody stems.

Due to the direction of sap flow, only a root graft would create a shared energy effect. Though it is unlikely that grafts would be succesful at all.
Kinda makes you wonder though about how we could manipulate the content & flow rate within the plants. My son has a childrens book where these mice parlty cut the stem & insert lamp wicking that is soaking in sugar water.
I'm tempted to start playing mad scientist with plants hormone & hypodermic needles on my stalled 845 Nesbitt. There's little to lose with that plant now anyway.
Or milk maybe? (just kidding)

Okay good info..i'd be really tempted too to start messing around with those things steve if I had a little more room! But what if you started 2 plants..1 would be let grow to full size and the other used as a second root system. Since the sap only flows in one direct, why not "graft" the main from the second root system into the main of the first plant at a slight angle so the sap flow always stays going in the same direction? What factors would limit the success of grafting?

I believe the direction of the sap flow is flexible so connecting two big plants should work. But how to achieve successful graft? First you have to be ready to sacrifice some big plants for the experiment. Maybe this is the way for 2000 pds ļ Heretics?
