How often does everyone come on to BP? Daily? Every few days? Several times a day? Sometimes I think I come here TOO MUCH (if that's possible)!!!

I'm in here 2or 3 times a day. My kids just look at me, shake their heads and say"Moma and her pumpkins" I think their really glad their grown and out of the house so they don't have to hear pumpkin talk all the time.

We don't keep statistics on when a person visits, that would require too much space in the database...

We do keep track of how many visits a person makes to the site. I thought it would be fun to pull up the list of everyone that responded to this thread so far and show their total visit count:

Urban, giving up so early? Remember it´s still a hobby for most of us, not a profession.
I like to compare what other growers are doing, and yes it´s highly addictive to meet here from all over the world. BP.com is my IE´s welcome page and I´m logged in most of the time from my office. There should be a bell ringing every time a new post or entry was made;-)

I prefer to consider us as "enthusiastically well informed" rather than "habitual offenders". But that depends on how one views these things. There was at least one "wet cucurbit" case where an already unstable personality viewed their significant other's involvement here as a threat to her affection & claimed it contributed to the destruction of their domestic harmony.

Twice a day weekdays if I can. More if a heated debate or a patch problem justifies it.

Yahoo groups has the option of individual emails & daily digests of new posting activity. I have "unjoined" more groups as a result of this as I find it becomes a bother. Here we have the choice to stick entirely to pumpkins or let it drift into the "off topic realm" as we choose.

To me it's the people & what we contribute that keeps this site so user friendly.

It is also interesting to note that the hit totals mentioned earlier do NOT include chat. Steve, you hit it on the head.....all of you are what make this site great. John and I merely created the vehicle. The collective community of "enthusiastically well informed" pumpkin and squash growers are the true asset here.

FYI - We are working on a new version of the site which will include a face-lift for the message board. Included in this new message board will be some member statistics like number of visits, number of posts, etc. Stay tuned...

I still don't get the 1,400 visitors vs. 28,000 hits. Maybe I just don't know the lingo.

If I go from one message board topic to another, is it logged as a seperate hit? If I then go the the growers diary is that a seperate hit? If so, then I can understand the vistors to hits ratio.

A visitor is a person.
A visit is a session (from when you come to the website until you close your browser)
A hit is a individual request from your browser to get a file from our server. So one diary page may generate many hits (one for each image, one for the page, etc).
A page view is request for a single web page regardless of the number of images on it.
