Has anyone growing this plant observed this odd behavior?
Ours had grown as much as 1 inch per hour for a short period & gained 2.5 feet in 5 days that week. It's around 11 feet the last time I measured. But now it hasn't grown 5 inches in past 5 days. True the secondaries are growing. But now I've noticed the vine is swelling between the main vine tip & the next set of leaves behind it. Not a little swelling either. It's nearly double the diameter of the 2 vine segments behind it. The rest of the vines segments are buried so I haven't observed their diameter in a while.
None of the other plants are doing this & all have been treated the same way.
Ideas?
Steve

mine was SLOW getting started, I attributed it to the tremendous amount of rain we got. But in the past several days the plant seems to have bounced back a bit and is pushing 2 mains.

One female formed. Hard to tell, but a second maybe - this afternoon will tell. But at 11 feet, any female set next week would be poorly placed anyway. Plua any female forming now won't be ready for pollination next week. Grrrrr

Mine looks great it's a few days behind the rest of my plants dew to the first one I germinated didn't take. I should be pollinating my first female at ten feet on the main vine in the next three days.

I thought I observed the same thing couple weeks ago but closer inspection revealed vine was doubling. Once it fully developed a second leader, I pinched one off. Vine has re- mained "normal" so far, and actually pollinated one last weekend on it. It's too close to the stump for comfort at 7' out, but provided a good warm-up exercise ! Good luck ! Duff
