These things are incredible! Can anyone look at this thing & tell me what it was doing? The heat? Following the sun? It was looking west in the afternoon. Weird!

I think it has to do with the Barometric Air Pressure. Some time tree leaves do the same thing, before a storm. Our Silver Maples are good examples. Either that our they just want you to give them a hug Steve.

These plants are amazing. Maybe it was waiting for it's evening shower. Pretty cool how the leaves are designed to direct the water flow to where the axilary roots are.
Steve - the growth rates like that are normal. 6 to 12" a day are pretty commom especially when you get the warm temps - like you are experiencing right now.
The ridges in the female blossom are too. I think those are the ovaries. You'll see what I mean when you cut up your first giant in the late fall.

Sure looks that way Chris! Take a look at your 300 at Stephen's school.
Guess what? It's even more dramatic when you don't see a plant for a week. Checked my son's school patch today. They might not be as big as the ones here, but it seemed even more impressive since last week they weren't even 12" long.
