Can someone inform me on the proper way of applying Sevin.
I mixed 1 1/2 oz.of concentrated sevin to 1 gallon of water.
I put this mixture into a small water spray bottle and proceeded to spray under and over each leaf. (only 10 leaves
so far.) When I got home from work at 5:00 pm I noticed some of the leaves were shriveled and of slightly different color. I thought using sevin was reletively safe to use against striped cucumber beatles. Outside temperature here yesterday was 85 deg. and humid.
Thanks ,
Will

sounds more like leaf burn than problem with the sevin application.

Will,
when did you spray ? it's best to spray in the early morning or late evening. Sevin sprayed in the heat of the day can cause leaf damage. It is also more damaging to newer leaves. the dosage you have is fine.

Sounds just like my Sevin burn from a few weeks ago. Advice I received was do not spray any of the new leafs at the end of the main (or new leaves anywhere). They don't have a surface material that older leaves have to "toughen up." Also, apply early morning or late evening. May want to apply only 3/4 ounce of Sevin per gallon of water, unless insect problem is severe. Also, do not apply to the point of run-off - that will burn more so.

Absolutely keep the rate on the low end in this heat. The plants around here are still conditioned for cool weather & by cool weather.

.75 Oz is enough. If more is needed, just increase the frequency of applications. Not the rate. So .75 oz. every 3-4 days instead of 1.5 oz once a week. Much easier on the plants.

I'd choose evening over morning whenever possible.
