I have been lamenting the fact for a long time that I do not own a tiller. I've almost bought one a few times. but wanting to get a nice and sticker shock on them has stopped me. I rented and I borrowed my brother in-laws a couple of times. which has gotten me through. So last night my neighbor calls me over to his messy garge. he says... "I've got a tiller over there in the corner. It was given to me. Had it for about 6 years. Used it one when I first got it. It made terrible noise- thought the engine was going to blow. anyway it's yours if you want it." it's a rear tine-
5-6 Hp i think it's a Sears. no speed control forward, neutral and reverse only. so anyway I'm happy. not all of us are have black clouds following us. :) LOL! now i'll i have to do is find time to tear into it and fix it. ... maybe by next spring i'll have it running. maybe i should just take it to the shop ?

some of us are luckier than others.... :) ... you said it your self... so because I poked a little fun at you I got a taste of bad luck just to make things even... read on.

you'll never guess what happened to me right after I posted the above message... I was sitting at my desk here at work typing away... and a mouse, from out of no where, lands on my arm... at first i thought it was a joke and one of my co-workers had thrown a little fake play mouse on me. well the mouse wasn't fake - it was real - and he ran off my arm and around my desk for about 10 seconds then jumpped off and ran under the cubical wall. about 1/2 hour later it was spotted running down the hall.
so how did it end up on my arm ? well the maintance guys had a bunch of our ceiling tiles out to run some wiring... apparently the not so bright mouse was running along up in the ceiling and fell down where the missing tile was removed.
yes it did starttle me and i jumped up out of my chair... no i didn't scream.
I bet the tiller is beyond fixing now... and i'm changing my handle to blk cloud II some where in Utah. :)

Now now. That could just be a good tiller. Mine had been written of as dead too. It's a Kubota 7 HP rear tine that was owned by a municipal parks dept that we do a lot of business with including light eqipment repairs. Someone had broken the starter rope. The maintenance guy in the town garage swaps the starter housing from a Honda 9 HP. No dice. Won't start. They bring it to us. My mechanic say it feels like low compression when he spins it over. One of my guys starts to work up an estimate for diagnostics. They say forget it. Junk the thing. I look it over a month later since I could use the room & want to see what parts are worth saving before we have it carted to the scrap yard. That 9HP Honda starter looked OK so off it comes. That's when we dicover the damn thing runs the opposite direction! Now I nebver have found an original starter to fit the thing. They're not made anymore. But all you need to do is wrap a length of rope (BACKWARDS) around the starter cup & she starts on the first pull every time.

Give that thing a going over. It could be the noise is just a belt cover that's bent into a pulley or some other silly thing you can fix with a screwdriver in 2 minutes. Remove the sparkplug first. Squirt a little WD-40 down the plug hole. Let it sit a few minutes. Turn gently by hand. Then spin it over & listen. Post results here.

Clouds are only as black as we let them be.

hey git; bet ya a bud that all your noise is comming from the starter rope rewind spring. they make such a racket when they start to go bad it will send chills up your spine. really cheap to fix if ya have the patience to wrangle the spring. btw make it a bud lite. lol...maybe it WAS good luck to have the mouse fall on ya....think what could have happened if the rest of the computer hadn`t missed ya! heeeee haaaaaw being able to post here during work is pretty lucky too!
