Just wanted to see how everyone's 840 was doing? Anyone have a fruit set or close to it? My 840 has a main vine about 7 ft long (lost the original main) and the two longest sides are about 6 ft. Looks more like a perfect triangle than an x-mas tree...LOL! Over all the plant looks pretty good and shows no major or permanent damage from losing its primary main. I know of another that has yellow spots on his 840's leaves and i do also. Anyone else see this on their 840? It is 95 and sunny here today and the 840 is handling it well. Are the other 840 plants doing well in the heat? Mike Frantz

My 840 is wilting a bit the the 90's but not much the vine is 78 inches long I will pollinate my first female in a week or so I will post pics of it. As for the side vines they are about 3 feet long. The main is growing about 7 inches per day. And yes my leaves have yellow spots to.
Good Luck

P.S. Who is still in the contest?

I have 1 1/2 840s. My #1 plant had some bad wind damage this past week but is recovering well. The main is about 10' and it was really taking off! The past couple days have been clowdy and cool and growth has slowed.

My #2 plant makes the #1 look great! It got burned in the 100 degree temps of May, got eaten by a racoon, was thrashed last week in the wind storm and had a tree limb blow off and land on it... and today??? Hail! So, I have written it off except as a possible polinator.

Mike, do you have a list of handles that go with names?
Good luck everyone!

My 840 D is growing. I had to plant the second one. Its is starting to vine. It doesn,t seem to like the heat. It has been wilting at a mild 85 to 90 degrees. I just sprouted it first, When i saw the tap root i planted it right into the ground. It still took about a week before it came up. Today it seems it has adapted to the heat. We will find out tomorrow. It is suppose to get up to 98. Greg

The weather here has been terrible, yesterday finally we hit 90! my 840's vine is running around 7 feet, had to terminate one vine as the plant doubled vined on me early.

My first 840 didn't germinate, so I started the second one a little late. (May 15) Despite the cool weather here, it's just started laying down it's main vine. It's has good sized leaves, (a bit of yellow in the start, but all green now) and the main stump is the thickest I've ever had at this point of the year. I'm still a bit behind, and need some warm weather to catch up.

Well the heat is on now it is already 85 here and my 840 is wilting badly so I watered it and gave it fertalizer but it does not like the heat.

Well, At first I was concerned, but now I dunno after everyone elses posts. Started out yuk; course there was all that rain. Somehow or another it did manage to produce a main and appears, in the last day or so, to be wokring on something.

Not expecting much, but I aint gonna cull it either. whatever it throws is whatever it throws.

SO I'm still in.

I measured my plant today, it is 98" long with 35" secondaries. It doesn't have many leaves but the biggest is 17" wide and 11 1/2 from the stem to tip. The first female appeared on the 20th and it is 68" from the stump. Could I use this female or wait for one a little farther out on the vine?
Could I make a suggestion? Instead of having Mike make a list of our names and handles, couldn't we just post them. I'm Dottie Baldwin and I go by Petalpicker on this web site.

Good sugestion Dottie,
I was assuming that some people don't like to put out their real name other than within the confines of the 30 or so persons in the contest.

Mike can comment, but as I understand it, some contestants were/are very picky about what is put out on the internet.
