When is the best time to start applications, how many times per per week, and should the pumpkin and leaves be sprayed? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Dave

Hi David,

I spoke at length about this with the president & a regional guy from Nutrical over the winter. He has tomato & stonefruit crop producers using his product at 3 oz per gallon (it's a floral grade liquid) as often as weekly once fruit has set & in some cases beginning just prior to fruit set.

We had some territory distribution issues with his product. So we are now using the following (identical) product to avoid the territorial disputes. Note we improved the chelating compound & have a slant towards golf turf on our version but it's the same material.

I started adding calcium 2 weeks ago in the root feedings & will begin folir apps as soon as fruit sets.

Green Flo 6-0-0 with 10% Calcium is a proprietary formulation of calcium chelated with the organic compound, hydroxycarboyxlic acid. This assures that the calcium remains in a form that is available to plants. It can be readily taken up for quick green up. It is designed for use on most fine turf grasses including golf course greens, tees and fairways and for hydroseeding. It promotes cell wall formation, translocation of sugars and starches in the plant and aids in the uptake and utilization of plant food nutrients.

Features and Benefits:
·    The N source is derived from nitrate nitrogen, which is the most readily available form of nitrogen. Turfgrass has a quick response to nitrate nitrogen
·    The calcium is chelated using citric acid, a naturally occurring chelating agent
·    The chelating agent protects the calcium from becoming tied up by the soil or on the leaf surface, thus making them more available to the plant.
·    Calcium plays many roles in plant and soil nutrition. It is important in cell wall formation and enzyme metabolism. It helps regulate carbohydrate movement in the plant. It helps regulate nutrient uptake of plant roots and is necessary for the health of beneficial microorganisms in the soil.

I'm using Nutri-Cal about every 5-6 days as a foliar, with a touch of PGR-IV added (10 mls per 1 gallon H2O). I also like to add a foliar of Bolster the same or next day.
Haven't used it as a drench so far.
My leaves look the largest and healthiest I've ever had, in my limited experience.

Calcium is called for in my organic program begining with Calcium Boron early on. Vigor-Cal for several weeks. Cal-Magnesium. Vigor-Calcium every week going into fruit set. Vigor-Cal going into 90% of finished fruit size.
...I am using the pumpkin specific fertility program of AGRO-K. They are on line and can be searched by Google.
Craig Lembke, NY, is a company rep who has heavy hitter experience himself as well as having advised numerous top growers. These products are of the finest quality I am aware of that are totally organic developed by a firm that is totally organic serving a huge growing percentage of the market place. I have introduced most of them in my diary. You can see the condition of my plants are very nice in this a most difficult year for the Northeast.
