All my leaves (4 plants)are developing a lightening of color that is random and varied. Not truely yellow, but heading that direction. I spray weekly with Captan and Sevin. I've heard nearby pine trees can cause some type of problem. Any guesses out there?? We've had 85 degrees here for the last 4 days and normal rain amounts.

Topsfield, Ma.

probably not the answer, but our pine trees let go a pollen
fog this past weekend that darkened the sky at times, yellow dust everywhere !

Miracle Gro 15-30-15 about 4 gallons on each seedling area (4 ft x 4ft)once per week. One foliar feeding of Neptunes once per week. Foliar feeding are either early morning or late night. Another grower felt quite sure it was pesticide burn. I'll forward a picture he provided that was identical to my leaves.

Sevin will burn if you use to much and it gets wet.

Yep. Saw the pics. It's worth remembering that with the cool damp weather, nearly all the leaves on the plants still think they're growing tips. They just haven't felt the weather (so neither the need) to produce a good insect/disease/pesticide resistant leaf cuticle yet. Warmer weather will bring about these changes in leaf structure, but the terminal shoot area (apical meristem) should still not be treated unless it's at a very low rate.

If you can avoid any additional stress from these guys, they'll probably recover in a week or so. But no more Sevin for a while. And no, rain doesn't wash Sevin off the plant as long as the spray dired completely. Rather the plant usually out-grows the dried residue before rain can knock it all off. 10-14 days is normal for Sevin if the plant isn't growing fast. Regardless of rain.

Steve: That helps alot. One remaining question: the Sevin label says "3/4 to 1 1/2 ounces per gallon of water." As a general rule, should one use closer to the 3/4 ounce in order to reduce burn and stress. Or is that amount much less effective? Let me know. I'm sure I used 1 1/2 ounces on the last application.
