Half an hour after coming home from the patch, which is 2 miles away, I had a phone call to get back down there, at 11 pm tonight. I could not believe it, some dimwits had smashed every pane of glass in my greenhouses. This ruins my season, I had three very good plants growing there...895.5 Hester...990 Hebb and 888 Mombert. It will take me a couple of days just to clear up the broken glass and even longer to reglaze them.I just hope the police find them before I do.

Yikes! I just can't believe someone could enjoy knowing they are destroying someone else's property. Alun I hope everything works out ok and that the ones responsible are caught and punished. Sorry to hear that story. I know you were excited about how well the plants were doing maybe they'll be alright. Good Luck! Chuck

Yes we have ugly... folks like that, the world over. I hope and pray that I never walk into a situation like that involving my family, home or properties. I'm afraid "thou shall not kill" would be a severly tested commandment at that point. Sorry you have had to deal with it.

14-16 year old males. 2-4 in the pack. Probably live within minutes of the greenhouse or traveling by bicycle.
Good grief Alun. I hope the plants aren't a total loss. And I too hope the vandals are caught & punished for this.
Hope this works out OK for you. - Steve

With the morons around my town, I'd say 14 - 18 year olds. I'm glad I didn't make my patch next to the road, exposed to all! I say, make a stake out incase they return to do more damage. Good luck fixing everything.

Well, I would say it's probably some local teenage boys who where out to have some fun. Alun knows as well as others what I went through last fall when my seeds where taken out of my pumpkin. Teenagers today have nothning better to do then to ruin out peoples property. I hope they catch them for you Alun and they get Jail time like the teens that took my seeds. Teenagers today care only about there own self and care less of what they do to harm other people property. Us Pumpkin growers put hard work and long hours into what we have. best of luck my friend. I sure hope your plants are ok. I am lucky to have my patch in my back yard. We also have an Akita tied in our yard. She sounded the alarm last weekend. I got up and looked out the window and saw 4 teenage boys going back out our gateway. Who they were or what they were up to, I have no idea....but thanks to Kita I never had to find out. It was 3:30 a.m. A couple of years ago our dogs woke us up at 5:30 a.m. Our horse stable door was open. Who ever opened it was in for a surprise. There were 3 dogs in the barn...one loose Border Collie, a tied in one corner Belgian Shepherd and a very irate Akita trying to get the tack room (where she slept)door open. Everyone needs a dog or three. Our Belgian Shepherd is dead now, but we replace her with a female Rottweiler. She sleeps in the house, the collie in the barn and the Akita outside....so we are completely protected from vandals....and of course I have two toy poodles for bed warmers *grin*

Alun I am sorry this has happened to you. I feel your pain, as I have dealt with vandals thieves and destruction in the patch. I hope they find the little SOB's and make them pay dearly. I hope you don't find them, as I expect you are thinking like I have that the police will be the least of their worries. This is part of the reason I have a new patch this year. The 5 and half foot fence with the electric wire, three big Akita's and horses will assure my patches security this year. I expect the Doc who lives on the farm is armed as well. I didn't realize how much energy I invested into worrying when I grew in a public park, I'm glad I no longer have to. I hope this doesn't end your season prematurely. Good Luck.

Alun, I am really sorry to hear about what happened. I hope that your plants are ok. It sounded like they were doing really exceptional. For someone to demolish everything is inexcusable. I anticipate they will find the person(s) that did it and they will get severely punished. Let us know how your plants end up. I’ll be thinking about you in my prayers. I have dogs (16). Our meter reader won't even come in the yard to read the electric meter. I don't know if that would have helped you to have a dog there though. They did enough violence to think they might have hurt/tortured/or killed the dog. Good luck, Diane

That totally sucks Alun.
Maybe use some plastic as a 'temporary'fix. The Hot beds, will still generate the heat. You'll just lose the ambient temp inside.
I hope that there is no rock damage to the plants.

I hope things dont turn out to be as bad by daylight.. Some people have no respect for others or their property. I too hope the law finds them before you so you dont land yourself in jail doing something nasty (and richly deserved) to the person or persons responsible. Let us know if your plants survived.. maybe plastic could sub till you get everything back in order Eric

Thanks for the words guys and gals. Both greenhouses have been battered. Glass covered everywhere. On the bright side the only damage to the plants is to the leaves. They have glass chards stuck to them...lost a few leaves but...THE PLANTS WILL SURVIVE. It has taken me hours to pick up pieces of glass around the vines and will take many more to get them all. I dont have the time to reglaze the greenhouses now but the last frost date has past so the plants should only be put back by a few days.I personaly will not do anything to the oiks who did this(I'll let the courts do that) but a few other gardeners who had their greenhouses smashed have decided to look for the dimwits themselves. I am putting a few pics in my diary later. Thanks again
Alun
