**warning*** this post is actually about pumpkins...hehe if i planted a pumpkin say 30 feet from my spring, set a pumpkin at 20 feet and let the vine grow into the stream at 30..would this do all my watering for me or would i still need to water the whole plant???

i think you need to still water the whole plant for you would need the nutreints from the soil that can only be absorbed by roots with water. unless you add hydroponic solution to your strem but it would quickly wash away. but an experiment i've been wanting to try is pollonate a pumpkin on land and move the vine after fruit is set and still small so it can grow in water this could effect weight and size in many ways i think.

well, since the vines ARE hollow, if you cut off the end in the spring you could probably hook up your gas powered water pump to it with a piece of rubber inner tube and some bailing wire. then all ya gotta do is cut a notch in the vine every so far to let the water out to pick up the nutrients so the roots can suck it back in to feed the plant. and if ya really want to be efficient, run a return vine back to the spring to dump any excess or used water the plant doesn`t need. once your pumpkin is set, you can duct tape the notches to pressure up the fruit as big as you want. you may even pour milk into the spring to milk feed the plant. i hear that works very well. the benefits are endless. heeee haaaaaaw !!!

better yet would be if the spring was higher than your plant. you could gravity feed it the same way but without the noise from the pump to disturb the plants concentration.

it`s got a picture of a swimming pool painted on the top of it to keep away the "heat".
