First of all I live in N.H. It's been raining "FOREVER" and that means the slugs are everywhere, or maybe they're all in my garden. Someone suggested to pour beer into pie plates. Guess N.H. slugs don't drink beer because I haven't seen a one in the plates. I have also tried some slug remover dust stuff, but the RAIN keeps washing it away.Is there anyone out there who has had this problem and found a cure for it? Well, have to go outside and finish building. "THE ARK" Thank's ahead of time for any suggestions......Flora

luvto,

Your pie plates should be buried to be flush with the ground, I'm not so sure the slugs actually drink the beer, as are attracted to it and drown. You would have to refresh the beer after it is watered down with rain. (Same thing for slug remover). I suggest you go to a mechanical method. Just lay some old boards in the patch, During the day, flip them over and you will find the slugs. Sprinkle them with a little table salt, and the slugs will disintegrate before your eyes!

Gardens Alive has a product called Escar-Go. It is in the pellet form. They eat it. They get a sick belly and stop eating. Some days later they just go away. I find it as good as any product I have used. It is not a poison killer and it biodegrades into fertilizer for your patch. The first 2003 application was eaten up. I have had no snails or slugs since however that may be the cold weather too. Nothing is 0% tollerance for them that I am aware of.

The chemical poison types do some good. They are in the garden centers.

You can use the 'dust' even in really wet conditions.
I make little piles near the plant I want to protect, and cover them with an inverted pots, saucers, boards etc. The slugs like shaded areas anyways.
I use Korey's slug and snail death, old english formula. Haven't lost a plant since I started using this technique.

If you are severely infested - place a ring of dust around your plants.
