looks like my 500 carlson might be a double vine....
earlier posts talked about using a 2ndary as a new main.
my question is has anyone grown a decent fruit off a intact double vine ? or are they just always junk?
I was contemplating maybe cutting off the "extra stuff" of every other side and letting it grow ?
just a consideration... still not sure what i'm going to do.

i think Don Quixote from Spain there had a solution for the double vine thing recently---maybe it was flat vine-- i would rather have a double than a flat, but haven't had either in 2 years--check that diary of his and you'll have a little better idea of what 2 do.
funny i just got done looking at YOUR diary and thought the
GOT MILK (jugs, that is) was a really good idea! probably moderated the temp somewhat, few degrees i hope. i'll remember that technique for next year.....'pal

845 Nesbitt was from a plant with a flat vine, which was cut an grew a secondary as a new main.
I decided to cull my 582 Hester as it had shown a terrible flat one which developped a ribbon on the tip. As it had a partner growing side by side, I choosed to let the other one, 600.5 Gregory, to grow, despite the vigour, health and heat resistance of the 582 were awesome. Even the secondary runners of the 582 were flat.
My 1245 also had that problem, but after cut the main, the new main from the third secondary is growing pretty well without any problem and is now about 10' long (planted April 4th)

thanks for the replies... I just read over the weekend that most double vines either split into two single vines early on... or go flat vine.
so i think I'll give it some more time to see what happens.
