my 200 Clark has 4 vines coming out of the stump. one in each direction. question is, would each be considered a main? if so, would it be beneficial to the plant to keep all 4? i`ve seen back mains before but never side mains. all are the same length and have laterals on them. a pic is in my diary, it`s the last pic posted.

i guess it depends on what, if any, predetermined style
you want to go with. if you have the Don Langevin book, i THINK it was volume 2, there is a nice picture of someone's
plant that was grown just like yours is apparently trying to...all four directions at once! maybe it's that new 'compass' plant we've been hearing about....lol.
there can only be ONE 'main'. i haven't figured out yet what
to call the ones that go backward, perhaps back secondaries..yeah, that's it. anyway, i would cut off the one that goes back, and treat the ones off to the sides as
secondaries...heavy-duty ones, perhaps, but secondaries nonetheless. my thought is that they occur so close to the main stump that they appear to be each a main vine. if they each have secondaries coming off of them, i would call these tertiaries and prune them off, as all tertiaries should be! go to this site--- henry's hole -------- the site of Henry Holman, and check out the
'Henry's Rules On' section...there you will find all you ever wanted to know about vine management/pruning, and
some testimonials from top growers such as Chris Andersen and (991 grower, Mr. Hunt). as well as every other aspect of the entire project! verrry informative! 'pal
