I'm growing the christmas tree style plant. I've never been able to have this question answered. The first 18 inches from the stump on the main vine, do you let the secondaries grow or cut them off? These can be main secondaries if I'm correct and will they feed the main or themselves? I know to cut off any vines coming directly out of the stump besides the main. And lastly, does a bigger main vine mean bigger pumpkin or does it matter? Thanks Jim

Not sure of the question but if your Main vine has laid down and secondaries are starting from this point consider them secondaries. The stump vine if left alone and not buried will have a definite gap or space between the ground. I wait until I have a real secure Main before cutting these just in case I lose the main tip in an accident. You'd be surprised how fast the plant picks another main if a tip snaps, Hope that helps but sure more experienced people will jump in if I got the question wrong. Chuck
