Has anyone here actually navigated a pumpkin? I'd like any info please.

Wayne Hackney in New Milford, CT carved one out & mounted a small outboard on it. He then navigated it across Candlewood Lake a few years back.
The following year he & 2 other growers (I think Hugh Wyberg was one of them) repeated the feat in a highly publicized event at Central Park in NYC.
I think one of Don Langevin's books has a photo. The first one I think.
Is this what you meant?

There is a web site somewhere out there that shows the Pumpkin Reggata. Sounds like it would be fun until you started to take on water.

Or did you actually mean patch and plants are submerged due to the nice weather? In this case I would suggest attaching flagged buoys to the vines so you always know where they are. Don´t forget anchoring the stump when you don´t intend to abandon your plant to the waves during the next thunderstorm:-)

Up in NH they have pumpkin boat races every year. About 10 pumkins last year all decorated and mounted with trolling motors. Check out the NHGPGA, they are the ones who put it on. It's kinda cool to see, worth the trip up there.

P.S. -- Jim B. on here can fill you in on more details for this year. Right Jim!!
