about a week ago i had said i had trouble with my plants because of too much Captan in my seed-starting mix. this was definitely part of the problem, but perhaps not the entire problem. the seeds germinated and came up, all 8 of them, in a reasonable 4-5 days at about 87-90 degrees.
last year they seemed to have come up more quickly, and also seemed to have taken-off and got to be about 8-10 inches in my bedroom window--special planting took care of that. THIS year i have been using the light from 40-watt
fluorescent bulbs, one is a grow light, the other is a full spectrum, simulating sunlight. each fixture (2 of them, side by side) has one of each bulb in it, about 6 inches above what i am growing... i have the most gorgeous tomato plants i've grown yet, but they're in need of transplanting right now, but that's another story. my AGs came up, and just didn't seem to have any enthusiasm, and still really don't. the 825.5 Shymanski showed signs of life after 2-3 days when i put it in the bathroom window and it began to grow toward the light. so i'm optimistic about the fact that
they will all do the same thing once they are out in the patch! i think the first batch definitely had Captan overdose, and may never recover. anyway, THOSE ones will be planted serpent-style, i think, and i'll hope for the best.
the second batch is doing basically the same thing; i had to basically dig-out 6 out of 7 re-plants--the Daletas 1230
was the only one to come up on its own, and it was the perfect seed-shedder! no effort required to speak of.
