Every spring I get itchy and pray that the weather will be good in early May for transplantation. Well guess what, it was terrible again. I think I learned my lesson this year. I have done an excellent job of keeping my plants alive, last year on the other had I wasnt so fortunate. So what I have I gained here on May 15th , a rooted planted with one or two decent leaves and was it worth all that trouble? No !!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I don't think you planted too early, Dave. For your location, you probably need 150 days to maturity (May 4th -Oct1st) You just had awful luck with the weather. Only other option would have been to plant in a 5-gallon bucket with the bottom cut out. May the weather Gods have mercy on you.

David, If it makes you feel any better, my only three plants in the ground stalled despite 6 mil plastic & heat. The soil was warmed with black tarps to a toasty 68* pre-plant. But our lovely weather has it back down to 58*. It's a good thing I came home for lunch today. The greenhouse was 105* with a wilting 845 Nesbitt. Your 821 faired better:-) Bart's 707 didn't seem to even notice. Now the ones left in pots under lights are all growing better. I gave one away a week ago with 4 leaves. The plants I put in the ground are still struggling with their second leaves. grrrr...
