Being all organic, the elements in Bone Meal are not very soluble. It would therefore be hard to over do it.
The actual rate is still important & is best determined by a lab soil test.
In the absence of a test report try the following formula:

Since we usually apply bone meal for it's Phosphorous content we'll calcualte the rate for 1 Lb of P per 1000 sq. ft.

If the guaranteed analysis is 2-11-0 where 11(%) = P

Divide 1 (amount of P desired) by the 11% expressed as a decimal. OR 1 divided by .11 = 9 lbs. Bone Meal per 1000 sq ft.

Change the numbers in the formula if the analysis (found somewhere on the bag) or the desired rate to apply (soil test report?) should differ.

Hope this jelps.

careful careful, Tremor! one little mistake like that, and the next thing you know, you`ll be labeled as an anti-feline-fez-donning something or other that`s probably not so good! green jeggs and ham? LOL PS.Tremor....who do i sue when I don`t follow directions on the herbicide warning label and contaminate myself and don`t pay attention to first-aid instructions on the box? i forgot about said contamination until i woke up dead the next day and then blamed the horrible sickness that lasted 8 days on the "flu". isn`t there somebody i can sue the pants off of for not reading all the label to me to insure that i understand it all? can you believe the nerve of some of these money hungry companies that just bottle up deadly chemicals and sell them to us, the all-knowing public, and then expecting us to READ the warnings labels? it would be different if they put the warnings on the labels like 8 or 10 times. but i found only 5 places on that bottle, that had the words "warning" "danger"or"fatal" used above several pages of writing about some crap about "directions for use". if they really meant it was "that" bad wouldn`t they put like, pictures of dead people laying in fields of dead weeds that their products have killed on the boxes? i`ve spilled it all on me at one time or another. i know the symptoms of pesticide poisoning. i know how it starts, how it feels. what to do,what not to do.if it`s a bad case or just a headache. wash it off or just wipe off the skin.BULL crap! i only thought i knew. those engineers and scientists don`t make the big bucks cause of their looks. they KNOW why there are so many warnings on pesticides. most of them are for people like me ..and you. i`ve used pesticides for 30 years with no problems until now. it only takes once so follow that label.btw... it killed all the weeds too!

Do not fret booth! Now that you've killed yourself with the herbicide, your estate will take over. In the very rare event that your untimely demise was caused by your own stupidity, then your estates lawyers will just sue your own insurance company. They're still responsible for you since no one expects anyone to take responsibility for themselves. But your insurance co. will then counter-sue the herbicide folks & we will have a battery operated talking label soon that tells us in 6 languages not to be stupid & we'll name the new law "booth's law".

Yep. Only in America folks. Booth's ghost is going to sue himself. LOL
