from note posted 4/12, am i understanding that along with burying vines u actually use remay to cover the trunk to help prevent borer egg laying and if so is that for the egg laying period only cause of the need to fill stem splits would mean removing/reapplying the fabric. being my third year and first accessing info from big pumpkin.com i haven't heard of the remay on the trunk thing.

I fear that Len grew tired of the verbal abuse, and packed it up for the pumpkin farm. You may not get a response from Len until after the weigh-off. I think Len is a firm believer in, "If you have time to waste on the internet, then you're not doing everything you could for your pumpkin plants"!

I did the remay thing on the trunks several seasons ago i found it way to time consuming.

All I know is, Len was always a generous person whenever I spoke with him. He patiently answered many questions (pretty dumb questions at the time). I respect the man a lot and have to believe he was truly offended by whatever happened. I'm not going to reopen this can of worms, so that's all I'll say on the matter.

Len can't answer because there's no computer on the farm he summer's & grows on. I don't think it was because of the bickering that he can't respond.
I know that Remay is used as a floating cover to prevent several insects. I've seen somewhere on the sight (try the search) where some growers choose to not bury the mains or trunk so they can keep a close on on them. In those cases, Remay seems like a great idea on those portions of the unburied plant that need protection.
Personally, I'm not tructing the few plants I have space for to a floating row cover. The percentages of control certainly help a commercial grower who has fairly significant losses budgetted into his operation. But with only 2 or 3 fruit on the vine, any loss is hard to bear.
Call me paranoid, but my chemical arsenal is strong.

Dave,
I have admiration for Len's pumpkin/squash knowledge and growing skills, but we have disagreements in other subject areas.
I too am genuinely offended by what happened and I'll leave things at that.
Good luck to all this year.

Kyle, this Easter morning I asked God to forgive me for "genuinely offending" you. If YOU had not offended David Garrell and me with all the items I posted (I won't repeat them here), you would not have gotten offended. You offended me again by not being truthful in e-mail you sent Joe Pukos last Sunday.
I don't want more e-mail telling me Kyle Double Bubbled you. I quit counting at 12. If it got to 20, Kyle would still insist it was not intentional. One of the reports this past week was a "triple" to Jim Kuhn. Now I ask the rest of you: Even if you kept no records, Could you possibly forget that you sent the first 2 to Jim Kuhn?
Happy Easter to all!!!!

Mr. Stellpflug,
You should think a bit before you spout off.

I just spoke with Jim Kuhn by phone, it can be verified..got his # if you need it.
I'm a NEPGA member. The Dec. newsletter said members could get free seed from Kuhn, Hampton, and Whittier by sending a bubble or postage..I sent postage and a letter.
I received seed from Jim Kuhn.
I wrote back 6 days later asking for the 1177, specifically, since it wasn't in the original batch and was supposed to be..it was the main seed offered. Feel free to check the Dec. NEPGA newsletter to verify. Mr. Kuhn also said that wasn't a problem, he understood.

He then says someone was by there, his home I'm assuming, talking with him about a Fred Little. He was told that I was gathering seed under that name to an address in Illinois, as well as in MY name at my Tennessee address.

Jim Kuhn has met Fred Little and understands perfectly well that we are not one and the same, nor are we related. He said this to me himself.

So Len...seems you're either stupid enough to spread false, half-baked rumours (from your associates?), without verifying them..or...you're knowingly propagating and spreading them yourself.
I'm sure you'll pick the former with a "I didn't know" statement.

What an Easter you've had there Len. You managed to belittle, thru hateful sarcasm, the power of prayer AND spread a proven lie about someone on this board.
Good going....

Can we just agree to disagree.
It is Easter and I am thankful.
I don't have a problem with either of you.
In fact I like both of you.
But you should take your battles to e-mails instead of the website.
Or make an arrangement to talk it out in the chat room.
I think this should end here with an agreement to disagree.
We have all read both sides.
I am NOT going to take sides I like both of you and will continue to do so.
I am sure there are a lot of people on this website that will agree that this is better taken elsewhere.
This is not the purpose of the website.

I offended Kyle again and I'm very sorry......I had gone to my farm a week ago yesterday and came back Wednesday evening when the weather turned bad. There were 3 e-mails on our computer about your extra bubbles activities. Two were from very successful growers who had followed the unpleasant exchange a few days earlier and wanted me to know you bubbled them for free seeds twice and that they would not share seeds with you in the future. The other was from a grower who said he was at Jim Kuhn's house Sunday afternoon and that Jim told him you had bubbled him for seeds 3 times. Fred Little's name was not mentioned.
I'm guilty of accepting 2nd hand information as fact. I should not have done that. I'm very sorry. If I had checked with Jim, He probably would have told me he was Okay with getting 3 requests from you.
Now, lets get on with growing "the big one". I'm going to our farm in a few minutes and won't be back for a long time as I have hired someone to cut the grass at our Rush home.

I didn't request seed from him 3 times, only twice. And #2 was legit, as stated above. Call him and ask him Len..don't tell us. And that other grower was your friend so that statement is bullcrap.

Why don't you simply leave other people alone and tend to your own business Len?
Go to your farm, meditate, get a life.
