Just wondering if anyone out there knows of any insecticide capable of getting rid of a spider mite problem. My plant is normally decimated by them by late august. Thanks in advance. (Mr. T I'll be planting soon!)

I have used malathion 50 and also an all season horticultural oil will also yield good results.

ACK! Sevin is very likely to make Mites worse! Mites are often kept in check by preditors that Sevin easily kills. Malathion is only moderately effective on Mites. Horticultural Oil & Soap (M-Pede) will work pretty well but can't be used at temps above 80-85*F.
Make sure you know which mite your after & then check with a local authority for a good registered material that is actually labeled for controlling that mite on pumpkins.
Allways use a spreader sticker with miticides. Also be sure to cover both sides of the leaves. Mites are tough.
There are a lot of decent miticides. Though some are better than others.
Bifenthrin: (Talstar & Capture) is really nice & controls other insects as well. Great stuff. I use this.
Abemectin: (AVID) is also good. Pricey. Misses European Red Mites. Have some but never used on vegies.
Bifenazate: (Floramite) is awesome but must be used in rotation with other MOA's to prevent resistance problems. Very safe too. Doesn't harm honey Bees which I like. I use this one too.

Spinosad: (Conserve SC) Very cool. Controls other insects too. A naturally ocurring bacteria. Heavy rates for mites though. Not cheap. Pretty cool.
Dicofol: (Kelthane) worked but it's hot & losing registration all over (I won't miss it).
Dimethoate: (Cygon) Smells awful! Systemic. Works. Cheap. I have no idea why I still have this stuff around.
Acephate: (Orthene) misses many mites. Cheap though. I wouldn't use it for mites regardless of the label.
Diazinon: Soon to be another political murder victim. I won't miss it. Works though.
Guthion: Class B poison.
Clofentazine: (Ovation) Neat stuff. Controls eggs if that helps float your boat.
Chloropyrifos: (Dursban & Lorsban) Dow sort of voluntarily (with a gun to their temple) pulled or limitted most registered uses. Good bye old friend.
Dimilin: Never used or sold it.
Cinnamaldehyde: (Cinnamite) Pretty safe. Misses a few.
Pyridaben: (Sanmite) Supposed to be good. Never used it. University data suggests it's almost as good as Floramite.
There are probably others that I'm forgetting. I can't believe I remembered this many.
