If you were to let a pumpkin plant grow on its own without trimming and hand polinating, approximatly how many pumpkins would grow and how big would they get? What square footage would the vine take over?

In the best conditions, almost 3000 sq ft and more than 100 pumpkins I guess.

How big do you figure each pumpkin might get?

I would give you 5000-6000 lbs of total fruit weigh, wich correspond to a very high production, but avalaible in best conditions, of 40.000 lbs per acre, which I understand correspond to a mere 100.000 kg per hectare, if my maths didn't go bad. So the average pumpkin of that prolific plant could be on the 50-60 lbs rate. Now, talking on my own experience, I can tell you that I got from one plant of one indigenous Spanish pumpkin variety, a type in the middle of butternut and sugar pie, 100 pumpkins without much care (only irrigation), of an average weigh of 8 lbs in approx just 400 sq ft.
