Question for everyone....I germinated two seeds from the same pumpkin.....as each pooped up I noticed that although the seeds were exactly the same and the plants looked very much alike, one would be alot more aggressive as a rooter....if you were to cull one which would you cull.......or if you had two plants that were from same seed and one was a very aggressive rooter but did not look as healthy as the other, which would you cull and why ???........wayne

Great question Wayne and timely too since we all will be making these decisions shortly..My choice would be to go with the aggressive rooter...Why I guess because the early leaves are gonna go anyway and if the distress is not sign of some disease would say the roots will more then compensate in time...if the good roots/bad plant looked as if the start of dampening off or something along those lines would go with the other plant...Chuck

Wayne, I've grown some nice sized fruit on plants that I would not categorize as being aggressive as far as green growth is concerned. These below normal looking plants that produce big fruit most likely have enormous root systems. If you have a plant that appears to have potential for a more aggressive root system, I would lean towards keeping that one. In my opinion, the size and health of the root system is as important or perhaps more so, than the rest of the entire plant…Joe P.

And... it should be more heat resistant, I think.
