I was looking at my lucky pumpkin patch hat. Well, you kind of smell it before you actually see it. I mean it's even the dog won't roll on it stinky. Here's the dilemma, do I let it reek for another year or risk washing the luck out of it? I lost everthing the last few years until I started wearing this hat last year and I brought in a couple of 800lbers. Something worked. It must be the hat because my wife says it sure has nothing to do with what's under it. I hear the heavy hitters refuse to shower or change until the second week of October. Heresay? I'm not so sure! (kidding, no nasty emails please) Anyway, what do you people think, start with a clean slate or pile up all the dog doo in the corner to keep the flies off my hat? I'm sure this the only forum where I'll get some serious replies (ya right!)

That's a tough one, you see I'm VERY superstitios ( spelling ?).....anyway having crossed that same road before here is one option. Next time it's pouring down rain go outside with your hat on & check on your pumpkin patch ( that way you can convince yourself your not washing your hat but doing pumpkin work).
I have the same problem but not with hats, I have lucky do-rags ( and I'm trying to find another pumpkin do-rag if anyone can help me out).
I hope that idea helps a little bit............Paul
p.s. Lets hope you don't get the biggest gain ever in one day on your pumpkin the same day you may not have time to bath......I think your wife you really flip about that one....I could hear you now " But honey it's only 20 more days until the weigh-off, I'll put on more aqua-velv " ........LOL

Turn the hat upside down fill it with soil and start a seed in it that way you stay lucky and married.

Funny you should mention hats! I've collected giant pumpkin hats ever since I started in 1998. I was proud to have every hat produced for the O.V.G.P.G., along with many others. But my green and orange from 3 years back was my favorite and luckiest! I finally decided to wash it, and shortly thereafter, on Friday, Sept. 13th, my biggest pumpkin (800.5 est) went down prematurely with a blossom end split. The worst part is that my "lucky hat" has been missing for the past 7 weeks, and it's driving me nuts! I've looked everywhere, tomorrow I go to all the restaraunts I may have visited in the past 7 weeks. If anyone has a green and orange OVGPG hat from a few years back let me know! Maybe we could make a deal! My life is incomplete without that hat! (Cabin fever is finally starting to show collateral damage!)

Plant seeds in the hat. Hummm.. I think it my be a little small. If I get 1000# this year then there would be plenty of room in the new hat I'd have to buy. The old one would be much too small. As for wearing it in the rain, well I did that all the time last year. I kind of smelled like a wet golden retriever. Maybe that's why the pumpkins did so well last year. It was an organic tea sort of thing coming off the hat when it rained. Forget ph and calcium and micronutrients, it's the hat that counts! Filth rules!
